Cheer Concert 4 Apil 2009

(12/07/2009)

Although 4 April was like quite some time ago from today, I really really need to blog about this Cheer Chen Concert we went to....

Cause this was like the first time we bought such expensive tickets for concerts ($150~~~!) for non-siao-onz concert goers like us, such a pricing really burnt our pocket. Nevertheless, for Cheer, its definitely worthed it.

Concert was called "The Immortal" which actually was for her new album "Sun" though I'm not sure why it was translated that way.

I must admit it again, the Cheer fans cohort in Singapore is very small compared to Taiwan where Cheer was hot stuff and they called her 老师 (teacher) though I'm not sure whether its due to her talent in music or the way she puts different views of life, love and friends into words. Quite sad that a lot of people in Singapore goes for commercial songs that they can understand directly from the lyrics. Yes, I do admit that it takes some thinking to understand Cheer's songs.

This was the quietest concert I've ever been to ... at least the starting. With Cheer performing her gigs with a little more than her usual no frills style. With masks, 伸降台... she looked a bit uneasy and her fans including us were just sitting there quietly listening to her singing and of course mesmerized by the visual displays that changes according to the songs performed.

The audiences started to high when one of her older songs "Self" came on. This is one of my favourite songs and I can keep repeating this song when I travel from West to the East without getting bored. In fect I have to keep from singing out loud.

She seems more of herself and at ease on stage when she finally shed her heavy dress and mask gimmick. I simply love it when she sings with just a guitar. When she sang this song 嫉妒I felt as if there was no one else there with me except for her. She is my "女神" .. as long as she sings, I don't mind sitting there for hours listening. I'm sure most of her fans felt that way too.

I will only cry when 2 persons sing. One is Fish Leong and the other is of course Cheer Chen. Especially when she sang this 失敗者的飛翔 and many many other songs like 嫉妒。。会不会。。。距离。。。鱼 .

In the middle of the concert, we were all damn high and stood on the (shaking) chairs when she appeared on motorcycle and her signature helmet, crane, mingle with the audiences and use guitar hero to introduce her band....

We had wanted to go to her Taiwan concert this year January and one more in November but of course not quite possible due to money and we weren't able to get the tic. (Tix sold out within 1 week from start of sales!!!)

This had become our dream and we really hoped someday it will come true ... accompanying with a trip to Kenting, Kaohsiung in Taiwan which was the home town of Cheer Chen and contained the beautiful beach that we all wished to visit...

Of Birthday, Cheer Chen and Hot pot Culture

Ok~ Its now April 29th... nearly May and I am still blogging about my birthday in Mar (lolx~~~!)

These photos been uploaded since Mar and I haven't touched on them... thats the 魅力of 康熙来了which I've been chasing and watching. They made my day, making me laugh at 小S's actions and jokes though at the expense of other artistes.

My computer 复活了~~~!!! Yeah! Thanks to Ixpert Solution at Sim Lim (ok~ he's Yif's husband- Jeff) my computer revived and will continue to be under my violent use. However, my vista cannot be downgraded (upgraded in my point of view) due to its version. (Shucks~) But the auto update was turned off and I vowed to back up each and every one of my Cheer Chen's photos and music files.

------------------------

Birthday cakes .. from my Dar at 12am of 6th Mar and of course the yearly ritual bouquet of Sunflowers to make my day ;D

Been tired from travelling to/from work and work itself. Arrived at home about 11 + and was damn happy to see the flowers and Dar of course~

Thanks Dar, despite his embarressment in buying flowers (though I don't understand why) he managed to get a bouquet for me.

Mar 8 Cheer Chen's 签唱会

Was at Bugis Mrt station waiting for Claire when

Claire called and spoke in a secretive whisper ... '.... 买porn.... "

and I was like "HUH??? *whisper* porn?"

Claire: ".... porn ... porn.... PORN..."

and I was like "..."

Claire: "Ok~ stay put! I'll come and look for you"

the moment she reached, she walked past me right into the 7-Eleven look for ..... "STORM" the brand of sweets that will make us entitled to sign up as one of the 30 lucky ones to get priority positions at the 签唱会and of course the first 30 persons to go up on stage for her signature and handshakes... and ALSO, lucky draws with chances to win a pair of her concert tickets~~

(which Claire won!!!) *oops too much information?*

She is not very popular in Singapore though. As alot of people actually goes for more commercialized songs and actually found her voice to be too 猫 (as in not stingy but sounds too sharp). Since tastes in songs depends on each individual, it doesn't mean I don't like "house" so "house" is bad so as long as I love her songs, I don't really bother so much.

No photographs of her though since Liyi mentioned for us not to take photos and videos and I would really like to hear her sing live.

This will be the first time I bought such expensive tickets for concerts and I am really looking very very very forward to her concert which was themed on her new album "The Sun". Very seldom can you get such good song writers who write on non-commercialised songs for interest. Though her vocals may not be very good but her non-chalent way of insisting on singing according to what/how she wants really appealed to me.

Hotpot Culture ... forgot which day we went there... but we had a colleague who is a super duper steamboat friend .. normally our conversation will be like thie :

Me: "WS, want to go KTV today?"

WS: "I can't my mum cooked"

Me + Claire: "Then maybe we go steam boat dinner ba"

WS:"Ok~ I'll call my mum and ask her not to cook mine"

Me + Claire : *flat faced*

Lolx~ So here's our trip to the Hotpot culture.

Even though it was a weekday but the place was quite packed. We were urshered to a small corner of the place and the person took our order. There were cooked food to be chose from together with raw food and also the raw food counter for the steamboat.

Many of the cooked food were Malay or Indonesian style with things like Tauhu Goreng, Tauhu Telu, Sambal prawns, Sambal Kangkong and many of them were spicy.

Drinks not included, not even plain water and the most peeved was of course Claire. I went again recently and found the lime juice to be quite delicious though expensive.

And oops I accidentally delete the photo showing the variety of food stuffs they had. So too bad. Please do look at it at Yebber though.

I would say this place is quite valued for money. Having the large variety of food to choose from, the dark chocolate fondue (YUM~~) after the steamboat dinner was a plus point though the variety of fruits and ingredients to go with the fondue was limited and the ice-cream tasted bad. Would have liked the soup to be less salty so that we can eat more things without feeling 腻though. In yebber, I also mentioned that the fuel for the personal steamboat smells too strong and greatly reduced my appetite. I went back like 3 days ago and gladly noted that they had changed the fuel type and although the strength of the fire could not be adjusted, the vomit-inducing smell of fuel was gone. A restaurant that is willing to take the views of customers and review it will go a long way. For people who love steamboat or is looking for a cosy place for family dinner or outing, this place is good though  I would say reservations recommended for big groups since they do have limited spaces for big groups.

Btw, I've just joined as a member where there will be refills of drinks for Ala Carte buffet, birthday treats and entitlement to other discounts, special promotions. You can refer to their website.

Rainie New Album “半熟宣言”

07/11/08

值得一听:(click link to pre-listen)

Good DJs for good fun

I used to visit clubs for bashes organized by our own hall of residence for "canvassing" (actually it just means earning money to top up the miserable budget allocated). Some times it's just damn boring when the DJs at the clubs are not fun. You will find very few people willing to dance or even enter the club. There was once we went for Ladies Night on a Sat and became the 2nd table of guests for that certain club we went in. Yes, 2 tables. We guessed for certain that it's due to the boring music tracks being played.

DJs are also important when we organized the yearly Dinner and Dance for the halls. I've attended D&Ds when guests laughed all the way through and also been to some where guests don't even bother to participate in the games that the DJs organized. Hence it's better to spend some money getting san diego djs than getting great other things that the guests may not appreciate.

Sounds Easy Perf at Jurong Point

Woo Hoot~! Woooo Hooooot~! Woooooooooo Hooooooooooot~!

Sounds Easy had the honor to be invited to sing for the Singapore Arts Festival 14 Jun 2008 at Jurong Point. "Arts on the Move" is one of the initiatives organized to bring Arts into the neighborhood to get more people interested and involved.

Although I won't brag that I've never had stage fright for performances before, I must say performing on stage hadn't been getting on my nerves before. However this time round I was more nervous than before. Its more difficult singing in A Capella groups. One of the obvious reason is that each individual is the voice and the accompaniment. Each error we make can be clearly seen or heard. Furthermore, we are a small group with only 1 or 2 person for each part. The amount of stress on each person is greater than being in a big group, each person is a soloist. Blending is of course a more difficult task when the number of singers reduce.

I kept making mistakes during the practices too... for my soloist/melody parts especially for "不想睡“ I keep getting the pitch wrong.... sadhad problems remembering the words.... and all these add to my nervousness. Luckily the people around have been singing with me for a few years now and we are close friends. Having them there was a great morale support (anshin desu) before the big thing.

Even though I felt that we did not do very well for the performance especially for my solo parts and that we kept rushing our songs. A bit of flats here and sharps there. We can still see that most of the audiences enjoyed our performance as they stayed put throughout the performance and that is a good sign. We have experienced singing in the public and keeping audiences throughout, is tough and nearly uncontrollable. (Unless we tie them to the chair or they absolutely cannot leave the place e.g Weddings)

monkey

Despite some glitches in our singing and screams from the kids directly below the stage (potential 追星族 practicing for chasing idols in the future), some audiences were singing along with us for the more familiar songs like Kit Chan's "喜欢你“ or nodding when we sang "Stand By Me".

However, I would say people are still not accustomed to A capella, especially the more contemporary remixes like the arrangements that June did for “车站” and "最后一夜“.

Listening to the video recordings of our performances (Haha~! Cannot show you ~! Pending approval from higher Management *wink*) I kind of have a feel of what its like when we perform on stage. We had never recorded our performances before and I think this is a correct step to take.

Now I know co-operation and coordination among the members are very important, not only for the sound quality but also for the outlook of the whole group. The group will look strange when some of us look like we are enjoying while others are not. Looking at each other during the performance can help us communicate and also to calm ourselves down. Its real difficult to sing well when we are nervous wrecks. In fact we should actually be too busy on stage to think about being nervous. Thinking about the pitches, coordinating our pitches and blending with the others, our volume, quality of sound, feel of the songs, the mics and expressions.

All in all, we are glad for this performance opportunity. It also gives us a clearer guide to performing.

Also a big Thank You to all the friends who went to support us. Qian~~~~ Phil, Allan, Renshi, Alan, Jing Jing and Dawson. Arigatou~!
