Lasik and black patch

I used to dislike it that I always have to bring extra pairs of contact lenses and contact lens solution with me when I went travelling. There is a constant nagging feeling that I will go blind any moment if my contact lens drop off or my glasses crack while being tossed about in the luggage cabin. Even when in Singapore, I shudder to think that I will come face to face with a roach or something without my glasses/lens on.

Photobucket

Pondered for about 2 years on whether I should get my lasik done but unable to do as I was scared and there wasn't extra money. Finally the last straw came when my contact lens solution ran out and my supply of monthly contact lens is coming to an end too. Lasik ... I decided and proceeded to do some researching and booked an appointment for eye check and the surgery itself.

I was told that I had to lay off contact lenses for at least 3 days. But due to the sensitivity of my eyes (and the fact that my lens solution is coming to an end) I decided to lay off my lenses for 2 weeks. Freaking 2 weeks ~~ of uncomfortableness! Imagine getting giddy everytime you raise your head or pushing up the glasses like every 2 seconds. Decided to go for The Lasik Surgery Clinic since my 未来大嫂(Now I know why大嫂 spells as "dasao".. cause 打扫came up as the first choice) went there and she said they are professional.

Finally the day came and Dar took leave to go with me to The Lasik Surgery Clinic @ Paragon From 10 am, my eye balls underwent tests and treatments of moving lights, blurring red houses and sudden jets of air. Just when I thought the tests are over at (~!) 2pm, the nurse told me that they have to do additional tests as the pressure in my eye ball is higher than normal. So additional $100 and additional tests La di da di da~~~~ and it's time to see the doctor. But before that, I was given eye drops to dilate my pupils. Though looking doll-like was cute, it's actually not that comfortable.

Finally stepped inside the doctor's room and the first sentence he gave me was "Jeslyn~~~ there's a good news and a bad news.." and not even pausing to ask me the cheesy question of which would I like to hear first... he went on "the bad news is that, we've detected a black patch in your right brain while doing your eye tests..... the good news is, as the black patch is beyond your right eye ball, you can still carry on with the lasik.. (in super fast speed right after) but you'll have to do a brain scan..."

My husband and I looked at each other without any reaction. Dar was the first to react (as usual), he seemed a bit worried until the doctor showed us the test results and mentioned (not quoting~! It's my own interpretation~~! I don't want to be sued~~!) that given the size and the spread (machiam peanut butter), the patch would have been there for a long long time. It may have been a tumour, or simply over zealous blood flow whatever, Dar's theory was that it's been there since the start of my puberty, small chance that it's something serious.

Now what's left is the decision to have the brain scan first or the lasik first. Don't have to think for very long, I chose the lasik. Well, the eye test results can only hold for 4 to 5 weeks. I'm very much sure that I don't want to let my eye balls go through the sudden jets of air again even though the charge for eye tests is free or $1 (I forgot). The doctor respected my decision though he made me promise to go for the MRI brain scan to find out more about my black patch....

(What comes next, differs from clinic to clinic and person to person... not all will have the same experience / result as me and I'm not quoting~ I'm just stating my experiences and interpretation)

Since my eyes were not in a great condition, I had to go for the bladeless custom wave front (whatever it means) which is the third expensive kind totalling to a whooping 4k(~! ~! ~! ~!) (after a $100 discount for Mar 11 Lasik babies) which I can choose to pay via instalment. Later on I got to know during the pre-ops counselling session that laying off contact lenses is to get your cornea back to their original shape. So those people who over use their contact lenses may have their corneas' shape changed and may need to choose the even more expensive epi-lasik.

People at Lasik Sugery Clinic going for the surgery will need to watch a video about the process and thereafter, go through a counselling session where they will inform you of any instructions that you will need to follow after the surgery (including not bathing or washing face for 3 days~!) as well as any danger of side effects. Was quite impressed with the staff at the Lasik Sugery Clinic whom managed to give good service despite dealing with a house full of patients.

Don't want to describe the process here but just keep in mind that there is nothing to be afraid of + it's 95% painless. The surgery itself only takes about 10 to 15 mins in total. Yes, you zip in, you zip out. (;P) Do keep in mind that if you want to go for the lasik, please get someone to go with you cause

1) You won't be able to wear your contact lens thereafter... this is common sense yeah, but you know some people . . .  so I had to mention it.
2) You will only regain about 40 - 60% of your eye sight i.e, if you are like me with 700 degrees shortsightedness, you will still be half blind after the surgery on that day ....
3) You will look like "The Fly".

~The Fly~

4) Approximately 1 hour or less after the surgery, you will feel that some idiot went and dumped a truckload of sand on your eyes.

Photobucket

Your eyes will start to water.

Photobucket

You can't open them.
Photobucket
Hence you need someone to shield you from the prying paparazzi Photobucket while calling a cab and holding you so that you won't knock into a wall. Except for the "Fly" part (That's my own interpretation), all of the above would be explained to you by the staff at the clinic. Including the fact that you can see 90% well the next day and the sand paper effect only last for 4 to 5 hours. So just go home pop a drowsy pill (they gave) and sleep. The staff at The Lasik Surgery Clinic will also hand you a checklist of things you cannot do for a certain amount of time after the surgery. You can also purchase eye drops at the clinic, they charge their patients lesser compared to retail price.

For the past 1 month, mornings were blurry since my eyes were super dry after 1 whole night lacking oxygen. Night vision wasn't that great with halos spotted at street lamps. These symptoms are improving though. The other significant side effect I experienced is the urge to sweep boxes of Refresh (Plus!) eye drops into my shopping basket and jumping for joy Photobucketthat I can see things beyond 2 feet. I also can't seem to get over the feeling that I need to take off my contact lens every night.

[to be continued since I'm tired of writing and no one in the right mind will want to read a blog post that is so long]

Even though its still the same timing waiting for bus compared to walking to the train station, at least I can stop sweating myself silly... ;)) Now I just hope there won't be so many hard shelled black winged monsters along the way. Just saw 2 while walking home -.-"

How I wish . .

Yoz ... and a few more days to the New Year. Its a new year and a new beginning. Have you thought up of your NYR : New Year Resolution(s)? Mine will remain the same throughout all the years though I have never met it since upteen years ago. Haha!

Can you guess what it is then? Of course, my ever ongoing plans to be slim! (and its still on going) How I wished, I can get into that pair of jeans in my wardrobe. Even though we all know that curvy women have to wear bootlegs and flares and the blah blah blah, there's always the tiny little voice in our hearts whispering "Skinny, skinny~" Ok, I know a lot of people will say, if I have a ti~~ny bit more will power, I will be able to slim down. Maybe I should wish for more will power .... or or maybe the ability to sleep lesser or beautiful skin or .... hmm the list just gets longer doesn't it?

Hair

Hair, no matter the length, style, volume, thickness or quality, will affect how a person looks. Many times, during awards ceremony, stars and artists are often discussed on their hair styles and looks even more than the award itself! A normal person like you and I can also change our image and improve on our outlook or even up our self-confidence just by doing something to the quality or style of our hair.

Hair styles can easily be changed as long as the correct style and good hair stylists are chosen. However, its difficult to change the quality of the hair as different people have different conditions. Using normal off the counter products may work for some but not for others. Its more important to find out the reason for thinning hair first before choosing the treatment or product to use. That's the reason why great hairstylist, hair loss treatment, hair loss products, hair loss specialists are so highly sort after.

I've been plagued by oily thin/fine hair. My hair will grow limp and oily, clumping together by end of the day and even mid day. It affects my looks and also my mood for the rest of the day. Not only that, hair loss is also a big problem for me.

I certainly hoped I won't find myself with patches of balding hair before I do something about it~

I haven't gotten my glasses~!

My glasses were spoil and they caused me a lot of inconveniences like I have to wait until bed time before removing my contact lens or I have to bring extra lenses when I go overseas. With my high degree of short-sightedness, I'm not able to watch the videos I love without my lens. Even when my eyes are dry or tired, I have to wear my contacts till bed time.

I would like to get this Incredible Stylish New Frames From Zenni! It looks totally cool with unique design. I will most probably stand out in the crowd without being too obvious. Otherwise I can get one of these Zenni Optical $ 8 Rx Eyeglasses and save some money to buy other things.

Most importantly, I think I should find out more before buying the lenses as it's important that the lenses we wear are safe and comfortable no matter how cheap or expensive they are. Check this out, Zenni Optical was on FOX news!

Bloatedness & Water retention

went to massage yesterday and having skipped the massage for 2 weeks, the moment my massage artist saw me, she exclaim : "Wah~! You put on so much weight!!!" I was like Photobucket

But a check will show that my weight remain the same. Its my water retention up to mischief again. Haiz~~ Photobucket

But many people would say to reduce the amount of water intake. But in actual fact, water retention is not caused by an increase in water intake. In fact, its cause by the reduction in water intake as well as the sodium level in the body. I, for one, don't like to drink water. Sometimes I can drink only 500ml per day and on some days, even lesser. Tea, coffee and Apple cider not counted as they actually cause dehydration in the body even though they are good for health. Note: Coffee can be good for health only in little quantity. Hey! Caffeine in little qty improves our mood ok?

So now I have to eat lesser sodium which I am currently doing (except the salted nuts that day hmm~), as well as to constantly remind myself to drink water, drink water, drink water~

Of Apple Cidar Vinegar and Detox!

I've been drinking Apple Cidar Vinegar for 3 months and I must say, I'm amazed at its effects and note that this is NOT an ad.

I was introduced to Apple Cidar Vinegar (ACV) by my massage therapist for slimming massage. She gave us ACV to drink whenever we went for her sessions. The first time I went and drink it, she told me it was for detox. So I went to do some research on ACV and found that its more than just detox.

Some of the main benefits I've read are:
Detox, promot digestion, maintain healthy skin, sooth irritated skin, help in weight lost, support the immune system, lower cholesterols and cure flus. I've also read somewhere that ACV reduces sinus symptoms though it hadn't really been proven, my sinus symptoms significantly reduced. No longer do I need to spray my nasal spray everyday. I can reduce the number of times to 2 to 3 times per week.

So far, I found most of them to be true. My sensitive skin becomes less sensitive and less prone to pimples. Bowels loosen (not lose control!) *blush*and water retention reduced. Weight is easier to maintain though please take note that you cannot rely on it to lose weight. You still have to control it by means of a healthy diet and of course--exercising (Which I seldom do~~)

People with sensitive stomach, teeth and throat have to take care not to drink ACV too frequently or drink it too concentrated. You'll end up with diarrhea or a burnt throat if you are not careful. I am one such person as my stomach is very sensitive. When I first started drinking ACV, I ended up with diarrhea as I followed the instructions on the bottle which is 3 times a day. (My massage therapist used and bought for me this organic brand of ACV called Bragg)

Also, its best to drink lots of water when you are in ACV diet as the acidity may cause your intestinal layers to be thinner, affects your throat and the coating of your teeth. Refrain from drinking it on empty stomach!

I will normally drink ACV 2 times a day, diluting it with honey and water. 1 tablespoon honey and 1 tablespoon ACV, for those who dislikes the smell and taste of vinegar, mixing it with juices will be the best. Or you can choose to dilute it with plain water or juices.

So far I've tried it with honey, apple juice, blue coral, water and green tea. Tasted the best with apple juice served ice-cold. Yum!

Of yellow and ugly nails

Chinese New Year is here! With a lot of hustle and bustle going on, preparing to visit relatives at their homes and wearing new clothes! House visiting was fun though I did notice a lot of people feel uneasy taking off their shoes when going into the houses. They have got yellow and ugly nails! Yellow, brittle and flaky toe or finger nails. Or even worse, the flaking nails caused infections to the toes or fingers making walking or daily activities uncomfortable. Even if the nails can be covered with pedicure and manicure that are available on the market, the real problem isn't solved. Further, flaky and uneven nails will not give the pedicure and manicure good results. They should read up zetaclear reviews . Zeta Clear is a nail fungus treatment which provides solutions to yellow and flaky nail by using natural organic ingredients to restore the nails to their healthy-non-fungus look. Your nails will look beautiful and shiny even without pedicure and manicure.
